Peru - Del OsoThe Los Amigos Del Oso Project was set up to help conserve forests near coffee-growing areas in the Santuario Nacional Tabaconas Namballe nature sanctuary in San Iganacio. The farms within the project are located in the buffer zones of a protected natural area, where spectacled bears and other highly endangered native animals are at risk due to illegal mining and deforestation. Working with an organic methodology and certifications are cornerstones of the project, as through these standards, a culture of protection of wildlife and species in danger of extinction is encourage. This balance with nature has involved the provision of native tree species for replanting and regenerating forest areas that require it. Coffee seedlings better suited to the forest environment are also provided so that they can be planted without removing native fauna. The Project has also been building composting warehouses, reducing the need for fertiliser to be bought. This also reduces waste as the discarded cherry flesh from processing is broken down and recycled into natural fertiliser. These benefits allow for improvements in quality, but with the least possible impact on the environment. |
Ethiopia - Demtuhis coffee is produced by Habtamu Fekadu, who owns and runs a family farm in Kuri Kebele. He is also the owner of Kuri Mountain Coffee. This coffee is harvested by hand before being shipped to the farm’s Goro Badesa processing site in the Demtu region of the Guji zone. The company channels $0.12 per exported pound and 5% of profits into a community development fund and pairs those commitments with hands-on agronomy support, encouraging clean, organic-leaning farm practices and the planting of shade trees. Habtamu Fekadu and Kuri Mountain Coffee continue to partner with local authorities and communities on school renovations and road maintenance, while advancing training that blends agronomy, quality control, and social responsibility. |
Ethiopia - Kuri MountainKuri Mountain Coffee traces its roots back to 1945, when Mr. Aaga Dinsa laid the foundations by starting a coffee farm in Kuri Kebele. His dedication to quality and tradition was carried forward through subsequent generations of his family, who developed the farm and supplied high-quality coffee beans to local markets. In 2015, inspired by this rich heritage, the current generation - Mr. Habtamu Fekadu - established Kuri Mountain Coffee to elevate the family legacy to new heights. Revitalising the original farm and building a state-of-the-art processing plant in Gidami town, the company combines traditional values with modern innovation. In 2025 they have set up their own dry mill in Addis helping to control all aspects of their supply chain. This coffee comes from their sites in Hambela and Uraga in the Guji Zone. In total, they work with nearly 400 farmers on over 1000 ha of land. |
