La Bastilla is naturally bright & acidic, packed full of fruity flavours. Great both black and white as an espresso base to milk based drinks.

The La Bastilla farm is situated approximately 20 kilometres away from Jinotega and is adjacent to the Datanli el Diablo nature reserve, which is an important biological reserve in the Jinotega area. The farm covers 311 hectares, of which 160 hectares are currently dedicated to the production of coffee with the height above sea level varying between 1,050 and 1,450 meters.

Due to its altitude, natural conditions such as its micro climate, its shade trees, its soil and the way in which the plantation and ecological processing plant are managed, La Bastilla produces a quality of coffee that is very special, balanced, with a good body and aroma. La Bastilla Farm has been certified by the Rainforest Alliance since 2003 and has a continuous programme of improvement.

Using the Teach A Man To Fish model, La Bastilla Coffee Estates formed its own NGO - 'FEER' (Foundation for Rural Education and Entrepreneurship). By setting up school businesses this model tackles youth unemployment with a system of “education that pays for itself".

Within this model several businesses have been identified which can generate income to finance this school. One of these businesses is an ECOLODGE which opened its doors in November 2009. For details please visit the link School, Ecolodge.

With our partner roastery we directly import La Bastilla coffee, who have offered to corner off a micro lot to cultivate our own unique crop. From the left, Markus from La Bastilla meeting with Simon (importer), Adrian (Roaster/Importer) & Andy from The Devon Coffee Co.
